March 26, 2020

In response to the recent confirmation of COVID-19 in southwest Virginia, the limitations to identify potentially infected individuals, and after reviewing the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Companion Animal Clinic will implement the following to ensure the health and well-being of our patients, clients, and staff, while we remain open and operate as normal.

As of Friday, March 27th, 2020, we will no longer allow clients to enter the clinic. The entrance to our building will remain locked during office hours. Our doctors and staff are committed to the value of client communication as well as the safe and low stress handling of your pet. We will continue to deliver both of these even though we will not be face to face with you.

We will be offering limited contact appointments only. Limited-contact appointments offer the same care as a regular visit, without exposure to multiple people and public spaces. During these visits, clients stay in the safe environment of their own personal vehicles while we tend to your pet inside our building.

The limited contact appointment process is simple:

*Call us at 540-552-6800
*Tell us you wish to schedule an appointment
*When you arrive for your appointment, stay in your vehicle
and call us to tell us you have arrived.
*Our receptionist will transfer you to a veterinary assistant or
have a veterinary assistant call you and your appointment will
begin via phone.
*After obtaining an initial history on your pet, our veterinary
assistant will come to your car and escort your pet into the
clinic. Please keep in mind, our staff may be wearing
appropriate protective gear to minimize any exposure.
*After completing an exam, our doctors will speak to you via
phone regarding exam findings and treatment
recommendations for your pet. Please make sure you have
your cellular phone with you. Communication with the doctors
and staff will be by telephone or text.
Tips: 1. Make sure your phone is charged
2. We have several phone lines, one that appears
blocked. Please answer all calls.
*Once the appointment is complete, a receptionist will call you
to take payment over the phone and our veterinary assistant
will deliver your pet and any medication/food to you. We will
email you a receipt of your pet/s visit.

We will be offering Curbside Service Monday-Friday from 7:30 am - 8 pm and Saturday from 8 am - 3 pm. This service can be used to pick up/drop off boarding or hospitalized pets, medication or food refills, and for any routine, urgent care, or emergency appointments. Simply call our office at 540-552-6800 and a member of our staff will be happy to assist you.

Prescription Refills - If you need to refill a prescription, please call 24 hours in advance. We will contact you when your prescription is ready for pick up. When you arrive please call our office at 540-552-6800. Our receptionist will take payment over the phone or you may prepay and our staff will deliver your items to your car.

If you need prescription food, please call 1-2 weeks in advance to allow us time to order and receive your pet's food. You may visit our website companion-vets.com to enroll in Purina VetDirect to purchase your pet’s Purina prescription diets online and have them deliver it to your home for FREE!

We want to assure you our cleaning protocols and sanitation methods are extensive and reflect the guidelines provided by the CDC to reduce contamination. We have also instructed our staff that if they have any signs of respiratory distress, fever, or cough, to stay at home. We are asking the same of our clients during this difficult time. We are here to take care of your pet/s but we must also provide a safe environment for all clients and staff members.

We understand this is an unsettling time for many of us, but I hope we can bring comfort to you and your pets as we continue to provide the highest standard of veterinary care through this crisis. We truly appreciate your understanding and support. Together, we can get through anything. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office at 540-552-6800.
